On May 15th we recognize a morsel of a thing! It’s National Chocolate Chip Day! It is primarily an American holiday that celebrates one of the most popular cookies in American History. The chocolate chip cookie is so popular in the U.S. that it accounts for over a quarter of all cookies sold and consumed by Americans. Chocolate chips aren’t just for cookies anymore. It is all about the things you can include chocolate chips in – pancakes, muffins, pudding, ice cream, granola bars, and pies are just a few of the wonderful creations you can add them to. Semi-sweet was the original flavor of chocolate chips, but today they come in bittersweet, semi-sweet, mint, white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white and dark chocolate swirled. I’ll add chocolate chip cookies to our menu or snack cart on the 15th. If you would like to stop in for coffee and cookies with on on that day, we would love yo have you for a visit!
The dietary department said farewell to Betty Swanson who moved back to her home state of Oklahoma! She worked as a Dietary Aide for Great River Care Center for the past five years. She has been a joy to work with, and she is greatly missed by residents and staff alike! We also welcomed Ellie Kuehl from Elkader as an evening Dietary Aide. She joins Hannah from Monona. Both girls do a great job serving our residents at supper time and keep things running smoothly in the dining room. Hats off to these great workers!
May will be a busy month at Great River Care Center. We will be celebrating National Nursing Home Week and have plenty of special food events happening during that week. Be sure and stop in to join some of our activities!
Have a safe and happy May!
